Porsha Stewart's divorce from Kordell Stewart hasn't gotten any less ugly in recent weeks. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star revealed more painful details of the split on Watch What Happens Live Sunday, April 21, and even more more on Good Morning America on April 22.
On Watch What Happens Live, the 31-year-old confessed to Andy Cohen just how, exactly, she heard the news that Kordell Stewart wanted a divorce -- and it's worse than we thought.
Bravo TV has been a major stage for Porsha Stewart's Kordell divorce drama. The relationship, of course, was documented throughout Porsha's stint on RHOA. And at the Housewives reunion special, Porsha defended Kordell amid remarks by her castmates that he was "too controlling."
One week after the reunion special, Kordell filed for divorce. The couple had been married for less than two years.
"I was totally blindsided," Stewart explained. "At the reunion I did feel some kind of way because I did want my husband there with me. I was standing strong representing for my family. But when I found out about the divorce, it was absolutely surprised."
We already knew Porsha Stewart was blindsided by Kordell's divorce filings, but it must have been extra-shocking given the messenger: Twitter.
Porsha Stewart recalled waking up from a nap to see missed calls from her sister. "She said, 'Have you heard?' And I'm like, 'Heard what?' So I went to Twitter and the first thing I see is, 'Kordell divorcing Porsha,'" she said. "And I'm like this is just a crazy joke ... I found out from Twitter."
Kordell Stewart was in the next room, and Porsha marched over to ask him what was going on. "I asked my husband had he filed [for divorce]," she said. Porsha didn't explicitly reveal his answer, but continued, "Long story short, I just felt very disappointed and let down. When I got married, I meant it for life. I always said I would never get a divorce unless he cheated on me or something like that ... I was heartbroken, like I am still right now."
But Porsha gave more divorce details on Good Morning America, telling Juju Chang, "It was very calm - it was me simply asking my husband if he had filed. He said he had thought about it and said 'we'll talk about it later' and he went to work. He said call my attorney to find out."
For Porsha Stewart, divorce was never something she would have pursued on her own. "I will not blame this divorce on anyone but the person who filed, and that is my ex," Porsha told GMA. Moments later in the show, Porsha began to cry as she confessed her shame over the end of the marriage. "At times I feel ashamed. It's almost like a failure in a way. But I do know that God has more for me and I know that at the end of the day he probably didn't deserve me."
If Porsha Stewart's divorce has left her with wounds that need healing, it would be nice if she could get some space from Kordell. Unfortunately, and to the surprise of many, the two are still living together.
Porsha and Kordell Stewart's beautiful mansion in Atlanta, Georgia, which Porsha designed to resemble the St. Regis Hotel where they were married, and which was once filled with photos of the couple and even a framed photo of their marriage license in the foyer, will likely be a major battleground in the divorce proceedings. Porsha has asked for exclusive use of the house, despite the fact that Kordell claimed she deserves to receive nothing in the divorce.
Porsha Stewart's divorce from Kordell is bound to get even uglier around these negotiations, especially since Porsha has admitted that there was no prenuptial agreement.
Though it may seem strange that Porsha continues to live with the man who blindsided her with divorce filings that she had to hear of through Twitter, Porsha would be unwise to leave. If she wishes to keep the home in the long run, abandoning it now could work against her in divorce court.
On Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen seemed taken aback by Porsha and Kordell's continued cohabitation. "You're living together?" Cohen asked. "Speaking?"
"We're in the same house," Porsha said. "I didn't say we speak. And I didn't say I'm cooking. It ain't no eggs and bacon and ham hocks no more."
